 Zoom Life

Staying focused during your calls

Let’s be honest you don’t want to be on any Zoom call unless you are having a drink with a friend!

But here are some solutions to make the best of it.

Most likely you start focused in your class or work meeting but then start losing interest and zone out. Admit it you have casually started scrolling through Instagram, TikTok and Twitter during a meeting. Especially when given the option to turn on your camera you usually chose not,  to do other things because you are not engaged.

There are some steps that can make you stay focused on your call:

(1) Get dressed and look the best:

You don’t have to wear a suit or a dress to be fancy. Put on new clothes, wash your face or apply some make simply anything that makes you feel cute.

Bring that getting ready component back into your routine as if you are going out to your classes or job shift. You can spice up your comfy joggers with accessories or any item that’s bright to enhance your mood.

Got ready to attend a morning meeting. Wore a colour that makes me happy and applied some makeup.

(2) Lock the distractions:

It is obvious but actually keeping your phone away for the duration of the meeting can help. Especially if you push yourself to go on camera it would be a good way to avoid going on it and also will make you look super respectful.

Anything but staying focused can seem entertaining as far as counting the dots on your popcorn ceiling.

If the distraction is a pet then think about buying a baby gate where your furry friend can be around but not close enough. Often cats are easier to train to sit alone but if that doesn’t work,  close your door to leave them the bigger space.

My view during every Zoom meeting. My dog just wants to cuddle all day and I end up taking her on my lap for the whole meeting.

(3) Change your environment:

Believe it or not, just moving out of your room to attend a meeting can be a game-changer. Think about this, you love your room because you associate it with relaxation and sleeping basically the opposite of paying attention. Make sure to designate another area in your home for work where you can learn to be the most productive.

If you don’t have lots of space to attend your meeting,  consider investing in a lap desk. Now you have a moving desk to go anywhere in your home.

These are some ways you can get creative to stay focused during your Zoom calls until you are able to return to real life.
